Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is displeased with a letter sent by President Dr Arif Alvi, asking for the Premier and Opposition Leader to propose a name for the caretaker Prime Minister. Sharif expressed annoyance, stating that the decision will be made by tomorrow and there was no need for the President to rush. He also asserted that until the caretaker PM is appointed, he remains the Prime Minister.
If a decision is not made within three days, the matter will be handled by the parliamentary committee or the Election Commission of Pakistan. Sharif plans to consult with allied parties and hold a meeting tonight.
The President’s letter cited Article 224A of the Constitution, stating that a name should be proposed within three days of the dissolution of the National Assembly. Sharif and Raja Riaz, the opposition leader, are expected to meet today to discuss potential candidates for the interim Prime Minister.
There is speculation about whether the caretaker Prime Minister will be a bureaucrat or a politician. Potential names that have been mentioned include Ishaq Dar, Hafeez Sheikh, Justice Shakeel Baloch, and Jalil Abbas Jilani.
